Transmission of Texts: New Tools, New Approaches

The IRHT – Institut de recherche et d’histoire des textes (Paris) – is pleased to announce the Training School “Transmission of texts: new tools, new approaches”, funded by the COST ACTION IS 1005 Medieval Europe. Medieval Cultures and Technological Resources, and run in collaboration with Biblissima (Campus Condorcet).

Course Programme

The Training School involves five days of intensive training (a combination of practical sessions and lectures), mainly on IRHT databases and on tools and applications developed by the Biblissima Digital Humanities Team. Participants will receive a solid theoretical foundation and will develop hands-on experience with research tools in the fields of circulation of texts, collections of manuscripts and transmission of knowledge, with a special focus on interoperability between databases as well as new methodologies (including ontologies and TEI-XML).  Languages of instruction: French and English.

Applications

The course is open to arts and humanities students and scholars (doctoral and post-doctoral level) with a background in medieval studies and at least some experience of working with manuscripts. Places will be limited to a maximum of twenty people coming from any of the thirty-six COST Countries. The course is free of charge, but participants are expected to arrange their own accommodation and travel.

Bursaries

Some bursaries of €900 will be available for travel and accommodation, courtesy of COST, to be assigned based on an even distribution of nationality and gender. Given the same level of qualifications, preference will be given to students and scholars attached to institutions which take part in the COST Action Medieval Europe. Medieval Cultures and Technological Resources Medioevo Europeo (see the list of participating countries).
