Transcrire la légende du sceau médiéval : Concevoir un outil typographique pour l’analyse, la transcription et le traitement des données épigraphiques des corpus sigillographiques français

The legend of the medieval seal, in terms of its writing and abbreviation, as well as the evolution of the spelling of the Latin alphabet, reveals valuable information for research. Without a dedicated typographic solution, transcription methods are limited, sometimes leading to errors in the reproduction of graphic and semantic data. Between epigraphy, palaeography, sigillography and typography, and following on from a research programme established between the SIGILLA project team (digital database of seals preserved in France) and the Atelier national de recherche typographique (ANRT) in Nancy, this project proposes to pursue the development of a typographic transcription tool, a typeface capable of qualifying the specificities of seal writing, in particular by opening up a reflection on the contributions of automatic recognition and artificial intelligence. This tool will enable diplomatic transcriptions to be made, an appropriate treatment of signs to enable them to be studied critically and will open up new possibilities in term of editing and editorialization. It will accompany an interrogation of epigraphic seal data.
