Biblissima Resources

This page lists all the resources and tools funded or co-funded by Biblissima (2012-2021, réf. ANR-11-EQPX-0007: Bibliotheca bibliothecarum novissima. Observatory of the Written Heritage of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance) and Biblissima+ (2021-2029, réf. ANR-21-ESRE-0005: Observatory of Written Cultures, from Clay to Print).

The list below includes digital libraries of manuscripts and early printed books, various types of catalogues and scientific databases, specialised corpora and textual editions, as well as resources that can be found in the Biblissima toolkit.

Many of these resources are intended to be integrated or linked to the Biblissima portal. Some of them were integrated during the first phase of the EquipEx (2012-2021), others will be treated during the second one (2021-2029).

Collaborative platform for managing and publishing the Biblissima+ authority files, powered by Wikibase software. Its primary aim is to create a hub of identifiers and structured, accessible, interoperable and reusable data. It plays a central role in ensuring the interoperability of the resources processed as part of Biblissima+, while enabling other projects to benefit from the data reconciliation and harmonisation work carried out in this area.

The Biblissima Iconographic Thesaurus, published on data.biblissima, is based on the partner databases Mandragore (BnF) and Initiale (IRHT), and enables them to be queried jointly. It is used by the iconographic search engine in the IIIF digitisations of the Biblissima portal. Interoperability with TIMEL (EHESS) is currently being implemented.

Authority file for persons, organisations, works, common names and geographical names in the BnF General Catalogue. Biblissima has contributed to the correction and enrichment of records within its scientific perimeter. A reciprocal link has been set up between the authority files of data.biblissima and the Data BnF platform.

This lemmatisation and morphological analysis tool for Latin texts is available for Windows, Mac OS and GNU/Linux. Lemmatise a single word or a whole text in Latin, translate the lemmas using the bundled Latin translation dictionaries, and display the corresponding syllable quantities and flexion.

Computational resource centre for languages with graphic variation

The centre (ENC-PSL), funded by Biblissima+, will focus on the automatic processing of historical languages with a high degree of graphic variation, providing tools (web interfaces, APIs, algorithms) and models (mainly for Gallo-Romance languages and Latin). Eventually, dialectometric and stylometric services are envisaged.

This guide to cataloguing medieval and early modern bookbindings includes TEI schemas for describing the bindings, developed by the Réserve des livres rares at the BnF in cooperation with the École nationale des chartes. Available for anyone to use, this tool will be particularly useful for cultural heritage institutions whose collections include old books.
