A catalogue of the scholarly works dedicated to Euripides in the 16th century

This project aims at providing a digital catalogue of scholarly works, editions, translations and Latin commentaries devoted to the tragic poet Euripides in the 16th century. These heterogeneous works, which were written in Greek and/or Latin, are central to understanding how the poet was read. However, these texts, because they are scattered throughout various libraries in Europe, remain difficult to access and are seldom studied. This project thus aims at producing a digital catalogue of the printed editions, and Latin translations and commentaries dedicated to Euripides as well their handwritten counterparts, written by some of the most renowned scholars of their time, such as Isaac Casaubon or Philip Melanchthon. The detailed indexing that will result from the meticulous study of this corpus will open up new pathways to the study of a still relatively unexplored part of literary and cultural history.
